National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is coming up. The second week of September (Sept. 9th-15th) is set aside as a special time to recognize the hard work and dedication of the professional truck drivers around the country.
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week: A time to recognize truckers.
Truck driving is not an easy job. Long-haul trucking involves hours and hours on the road, and driving an eighteen-wheeler (or any type of truck) can be dangerous. But the men and women who have dedicated their lives to trucking are an essential part of the American economy, which depends on commerce and trade. Truckers are the people who make it happen – they move the goods where they need to go, whether the final destination is in a metro city or in a rural town. Americans depend on the work that truckers do, which is why National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is so important.
Truckers and the American economy.
Truckers are kind of like the heartbeat of the country. Goods, products, and packages don’t just appear magically in stores or at people’s doorsteps. (In fact, about 70% of goods consumed in the US are moved by truck.) The products that we enjoy so much are transported over long distances. We enjoy the convenience of being able to go to the store and buy food, clothes, electronics, household supplies, and so on because someone who drives a truck brought them there. We enjoy even more convenience when things that we order online appear at our front doors.
Appreciating the professional truck drivers who have dedicated their lives to trucking.
Even more reason to appreciate truck drivers is that the transportation industry is currently operating with a severe shortage of professional truckers. The Washington Post estimated that about 50,000 more truckers are needed to fill the national demand for transportation. Trucking is definitely not an easy job, and it’s not a job that a lot of people are willing to take on. But that’s why all of those people who earn their living as truck drivers deserve some major thanks and appreciation. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an important opportunity for truckers to be recognized.
